The Watson Journals
Production Design (Film)

The Project

The Watson Journals is a unique episodic drama based around the much loved characters of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The first episode, The Syndicate, was an 8 minute short that was filmed in Wellington, NZ. This short film has garnered multiple awards, including Best Production Design from 4theatres and Awards of Excellence: Special Jury Mention and Platinum Best Production Design Awards from Independent Shorts Awards, among several other nominations and accolades.
The challenges revolved around filming a period drama with no budget. The pre-production team excelled in securing two stunning locations, Peter Jackson's Weta-based cinema and the iconic Stone Street Studios, as well as self-funding numerous props and costume items.

My role

As the Production Designer for this film, I collaborated with the Director and Art Director to shape the visual direction. Our tasks included developing mood boards and prop outlines to guide the cast, create design assets such as logos or props and managing the design of the shooting locations.
